Here are just a few organisations you can join to make a difference in Tasmania:
Founded in 2015, NOFF is a not-for-profit organisation driven by volunteers based in the Huon and Channel. It is one of the leading community-based groups holding the foreign-owned salmon industry, government and regulators to account.
Founded by environmentalist Dr Bob Brown, BBF takes bold, direct action to protect Earth’s precious wild places. From the ancient rainforests of Takayna to the icy wilderness of Antarctica, they stop environmental destruction through the courts, frontline blockades, and citizen science.
The Wilderness Society Tasmania
A foundational organization in the Australian environmental movement, running state-wide campaigns for native forest protection and climate action.
The state’s peak conservation organization, focusing on marine protection, ending native forest logging, and accelerating the renewable energy transition.
Tasmanian Conservation Trust (TCT)
Established in 1968, it provides hands-on support for community-led biodiversity preservation and campaigns against destructive urban over-development.
Planning Matters Alliance Tasmania (PMAT)
A coalition of nearly 80 community groups dedicated to defending civic participation and environmental protections in the state’s land-use planning system.
Community Independents Project
A collaboration of ordinary Australians to enable and support communities and Community Independents to build participatory democracy and conduct successful election campaigns.
Increasing participatory democracy in Australia’s most-southern electorate, focusing on improving the quality of members of parliament.
Pathways to Politics for Women
Increasing the number of women in Australian politics by equipping diverse women to boldly embrace their political ambitions, thrive as leaders and make a profound contribution to society.
Provides politically neutral training events, workshops and networking opportunities to inspire more women to run for public office in Australia
An independent, national not-for-profit organisation established in 1989 working at the forefront of community and corporate engagement in environmental conservation and sustainable land management with activities that protect and conserve Australia’s land, water, soils, plants, animals and ecosystems.
Connecting groups and individuals to encourage, promote and initiate climate action across lutruwita/Tasmania through cooperation, influence and knowledge sharing
The TAC represents the political and community development aspirations of the Tasmanian Aboriginal community. They operate statewide services and programs including a holistic and state-of-the-art health service and allied programs, land and sea management, cultural awareness unit and palawa kani language program.
South East Tasmanian Aboriginal Corporation
The South East Tasmanian Aboriginal Corporation (SETAC) exists to facilitate the empowerment of the Aboriginal people of South East Tasmania so that, through self-determination, we can make decisions that affect our lives and share in Australia’s land, wealth, and resources, contributing equitably to the nation’s economic, social, and political life, with full recognition of, and support for the ongoing enjoyment and development of our Indigenous cultural heritage.
A group of Tasmanians who wish to see development that responds to the needs and values of Tasmanians, and which benefits Tasmanians, not vested corporate interests that seek state lands and large taxpayer subsidies be given them.
